Allama Talib Jauhari was an established and expert poet as well.
There are three books being published consisting of Poetry by Allama Talib Jauhari. The names of these books are “Pas-e-Afaq”, “Shaakh-e-Sada” & “Harf-e-Namu”. Very few people know that Allama Talib Jauhari was an expert in “Muhmil” Poetry as well which is a type of poetry which has no meaning. He wrote hundreds of “Muhmil” poems and challenged poets to compete with him.
Moreover, two of his master pieces “Wajood-e-Baari” & “Hidayat Marsiya” are widely recited by known “Tahtul Lafz” Reciters of Pakistan. A well known young scholar and researcher Irtiza Abbas Naqvi narrates that:
” Once Allama Talib Jauhari recited one of his newly written “Qasida” and asked everyone to explain the “Bahar / بحر” of this poetry. When none of the people were able to answer, Allama Talib Jauhari said that I have used the “Bahar / بحر” of famous Arabic poetry “Umra-al-Qais”.
Below is a couplet from his famous “Hidayat Marsiya”.
عادت نہیں میری یہ تعلی یہ ترفع
مقصد تھا بس اِس فن کے بزرگوں کی تبع
ہے اہلِ سماعت سے تسامح کی توقع
حیراں نہ ہوں، شعروں میں اگر جان نہیں ہے
یہ شوق ہے میرا، مری پہچان نہیں ہے۔
